For Stars Fell Asleep Too Soon (2025)

Instrumentation: String Quartet

Duration: 6 minutes

Program Note

For Stars Fell Asleep Too Soon is a poignant reflection on loss and remembrance. I do not aim to provide answers but instead offers a space for contemplation, allowing audience to connect with their personal experiences of loss—whether of people, moments, passions or something intangible yet deeply felt. I hope this piece offers an opportunity to reflect on what we have lost and to find solace in the act of remembering.

Also, For Stars Fell Asleep Too Soon is written based on [D,E,G,A] where the name Del Sol is translated into musical pitches (D=D, E=E, L=A or La, Sol=G). This pitch-class set evokes the sonority of traditional Korean music. And I employed string techniques that imitate the sounds of traditional Korean instruments (janggu, geomungo, gayageum, and haegeum) to maximize the effect, inviting a meditative experience for its audience.
